Hosting and server logs

This website is delivered via Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit the website, technically necessary data is processed, in particular your IP address, the date and time of access, the page requested and information about your browser and operating system. This data is needed to deliver the website, keep it secure and analyse errors. It is stored only briefly and then deleted automatically.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in operating the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). A data processing agreement is in place with Cloudflare. Data may be transferred to the USA in the process. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR).

Audience measurement with Cloudflare Web Analytics

To understand how this website is used, I use Cloudflare Web Analytics, another service provided by Cloudflare. When you open a page, your browser loads a small script from Cloudflare that sends the following information: the page requested, the page you came from (referrer), your browser, operating system and screen size, and how long the page took to load. Your country is derived from your IP address.

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not set cookies, does not use local storage and does not create user profiles or fingerprints of your device. Your visit is not tracked across other websites. I only see aggregated statistics, such as the number of page views per day, and cannot draw conclusions about individual people from them.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in improving the website based on how it is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The information on transfers to the USA given under hosting applies here as well. You can object to this processing at any time, for example by blocking the script with a content blocker in your browser.

Contact by email

If you send me an email, I process the information you provide (such as your name, email address and the content of your message) in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is taking steps prior to entering into a contract or performing a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), otherwise my legitimate interest in answering your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your message is kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. If the enquiry leads to an engagement, statutory retention periods apply, such as seven years under the Austrian Federal Fiscal Code (BAO).

I use Zoho Mail for email (Zoho Corporation B.V., Beneluxlaan 4B, 3527 HH Utrecht, Netherlands). Zoho processes the data on my behalf in data centres within the EU.

Cookies and local storage

When you choose a language using the language switch, we store this choice in a cookie (lang, valid for 12 months) so that you are not redirected to a different language version on your next visit. The cookie only contains the selected language and is not shared with third parties.

When you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage (localStorage, entry theme). This information never leaves your device and can be deleted at any time in your browser settings.

Both are only stored when you take action and serve solely to keep the setting you chose (Section 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021). No cookies are used for analytics or advertising.

The fonts used on this website are loaded from its own server. No connection to third-party servers is made for this.

This website contains links to external services such as YouTube or LinkedIn. Data is only transferred to the respective provider once you click such a link. The provider is responsible for any processing on their side.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict its processing, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise these rights, please contact the email address above.

If you believe that the processing of your data violates data protection law, you can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Austria, this is the Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, www.dsb.gv.at).
